2024 Wrap Up (Late Edition)

I just realized that I never posted finished pics of Gnarlythotep or my other entry from last year or WIP pics of him or anything! So, this is going to be a recap from last year so I can get those pics out there!

I knew I wanted to do Nyarlothotep as a skateboarder after GBO brought me a 3d printed skateboard as a joke. It evolved from there, with him also printing me a half pipe.

Then I started with a bunch of sketches for concept art. I always have more time to draw than paint, so I tend to start there to get an idea for what I’m doing. Then I decided to use washi tape stickers to do my freehand on for the bottom of the skateboard.

After that, I kept blending and lining and blending and lining. I decided he needed a septum piercing to go with the Bebop and Rocksteady vibe I was going for. and I had to re-freeze his hand like 4 times. I don’t think it ever actually held that shape, but oh well.

Final pics of my guy. He was tough to photograph, but worth a look!

I also had a mouseling diorama where I was attempting to show that I can paint ‘traditional’ style as well as blacklining. So she’s walking through the arch where things change to comic style. I’m not sure it was dramatic enough to really show, but I was pretty happy with her hair and sword. I made the lantern change to comic style when it was through the midline.

I also had my first year teaching and sitting in artists’ alley! It was a super huge honor and I enjoyed it so much! I can’t wait to go back and do it again this year!

Reapercon isn’t Reapercon without catching up with friends! I finally managed to make time to get some pics! The Tiny Overlord and Chaos Goblin also came up and joined us on saturday! (shoutout to grandma for driving them the 6 hours up to us!).

I was honored to be featured as the box art artist for Reaper’s Michaels version of Arakoth the Ancient, and even more excited to go get one for myself! My local Michaels wasn’t on the distribution, so we had a mini road trip to go find him! (it says my name!!!!)

At the awards ceremony, I received a gold medal and bronze giant monster award for Gnarly, and a silver for my mouseling diorama. Then, we did the gummy bear painting competition, which was super fun! (Bonus pic of my trophy shelf at home)

I made all of these little jars of stars and sent them home with people. I had like 3 or 4 boxes of these small ones and had a great time giving them away and teaching people how to make more! They’re a really fun little time waster that makes something fun at the end.

All in all, it was a super fun time and I am always excited to go back. Sorry I forgot to post any of this. lol. Expect another post like this in like 2 weeks (hopefully).
